You use database publishing when you want to publish information you have in a database on a regular basis, or you have a huge amount of information you want to publish once. Examples are product catalogues you want to print every year, phone books, price lists you want to update every quarter, or encyclopedias, usually published only once. The source can be any format, XML/SGML files, SQL databases like SQL Server or Oracle, Access, FileMaker Pro, tab-separated text files, Excel, etc. We export the information and import it into a corresponding FrameMaker template. In average 80% of the job is done automatically! The percentage depends on the resulting layout and the database structure. The layout program is preferably Adobe FrameMaker because of its template-driven way of working, and it is fast and reliable. Our experience says you got a better result with FrameMaker than any other layout software, like Quark XPress, InDesign, or PageMaker.
